Studio Forma

Headquarters for a design consultancy: stone-toned calm, focus rooms like cabinets, a library at the core.

Studio Forma workplace with central library

Brief & objectives

A thirty-person consultancy outgrew its co-working space and asked for a headquarters that would slow people down: fewer desks, more rooms with a purpose.

The team is hybrid; the office had to be worth the commute.

  • Replace desk rows with a landscape of settings around a central library
  • Achieve conversational privacy without a corridor of doors
  • Keep the fit-out demountable for the next tenancy

Process

  1. 01

    Shadowing

A week of shadowing the team produced a brief written in verbs — gather, retreat, present — rather than room names.

  2. 02

    The library

The material library became the physical and social core, doubling as the main meeting room.

  3. 03

    Quiet

Freestanding focus rooms, felt ceilings and a strict finish palette brought reverberation below conversation level.
